The archive is, very simply, a list of previous entries arranged in chronological order. Therefore, all blog entries are saved online and are available for later review without crowding the main page of your actual blog. The blog itself contains only the entries of a specified time period, such as the last week or month.

Every blogger uses their respective blog interface to customize every aspect of their blog. As for customizing the archives, there's not much one can do. There are just a few simple settings to deal with, such as how often you want to make an archive link. For example, one can make an archiving link daily, weekly, or monthly. A blogger can also choose to not keep archives, or to keep them in a separate file from the blog altogether.

Finding archives of a blogger who has saved it in a different file, not visible on their main blog page, can be either an easy or difficult task. Usually, a curious person can just type /archive, /archive.htm, /archive.html, or /archive.shtml to find the archive file on somebody's blog. Some keep all files in their blog on their archive page. Some even keep XML archives for mirroring of their blogs. XML archives are usually public to allow people to share their favorite blogs with thier own blog readers.
